Parent/ Guardian Involvement
We recognize that parents/ guardians are the constant in a child’s life and we welcome their involvement and encourage their input. They can teach us so much about their child and we can exchange knowledge of child development with them. We invite families into the classroom to spend time with their child and view the documentation and learning stories displayed on the walls and in their child’s portfolio. We hold open houses to help families understand our curriculum approach and the importance of play. We create parent boards that use the common language of Ontario’s Early Learning Framework and photos of the developmental domains.
Parents/ guardians of Whitehills Childcare Association have many opportunities to have input and be involved in the organization. Whitehills is a parent co-operative and the Board of Directors of Whitehills Childcare Association consists of up to 15 members who are either current parents or past parents. Membership is open to parents/ guardians from all programs and a call for members goes out to families prior to, during our Annual General Meeting and throughout the year.
Our Annual General Meeting is combined with a family event held in June. This encourages more families to attend the AGM as supper is included and entertainment is provided for the children while the parents/ guardians attend the business portion of the meeting. The business portion includes elections, approval of Audited Statements and a presentation by the Executive Director on programs and community updates as well as presentations to staff.
